About James Robert Kibby
Life, history, and faith are what color the musical canvas of Buffalo-based singer-songwriter James Robert Kibby. His sound is an organic blend of old and new folk traditions, touched by artists like: Neil Young, John Denver, The Avett Brothers, and Dave Rawlings. When he is not writing or performing music, James enjoys spending time with his wife Kristie and two kids Khloe and Eli. He also works as a producer for three podcasts including his Deer Tracks poetry podcast where he shares his own poems as well as poems from listeners and prominent poets of history.
His debut album was a home recording project he released at the end of 2016 titled One Man Garage Band. Jamie Funk from Divide and Conquer had this to say about the album and James’ writing, “Kibby’s talent is undeniable on this album. He is a good songwriter… Kibby shows some potential and talent and I think he has a promising future ahead of him." After that he released two singles, How Deeply (2018), Calm Your Heart (2019), and his first studio recorded EP titled Flesh & Bone (2019) which he recorded at Old Bear Recording Studios in Batavia, NY.
James’ latest release, The Weekend Preacher (2020), was written, recorded, and produced with his good friend, and fellow Buffalo-based singer-songwriter, Evan Anstey. This project was born out of Evan and James’ mutual interest in local news and history, and their love for folk and bluegrass music.
