Dr Squid

Dr. Squid was formed in the summer of 1999. Brought together to play at a wedding, the band quickly realized there existed a very special chemistry between the musicians and hasn't looked back. Dr. Squid is the number one band in Northern California, playing all types of events, from night clubs to private parties to class reunions and special concerts. Dr. Squid performs the greatest dance music from the last 50 years of rock and roll as well as jazz standards and a bit of country music. The band has built a large following throughout the west coast for their tight rhythm section and four part harmonies. Dr Squid is: Bob Martinez (drums and vocals) Bob is a 30 year veteran of music and hails from a family that is famous for producing some of the most sought after drummers in the music business. Proficient in many styles, Martinez studied Jazz under the great Jerry Moore and has played with many jazz greats, including the legendary sax man Buddy Collette. As a rock drummer, Martinez has appeared with rock and roll greats like Bad Company, Edgar Winter, The Tubes, Eddie Money, The Nelsons, The Coasters and The Drifters. Eldin Green (guitars, sax, keyboards and vocals) Eldin has been playing rock, jazz, and classical music since the early sixties. Trained at a young age by such musical luminaries as Hollywood film composer John Williams, Green is an award winning engineer and producer and his music portfolio lists an impressive twenty five albums. You can hear his newest CD entitled B-Bang! which features members of Dr Squid. In addition to his own recordings, Eldin has performed as a guest artist on dozens of albums and CD's. Eldin Green has appeared with rock and roll artists such as Three Dog Night, .38 Special, Bad Company, Eddie Money, blues man John Mayall, Elvin Bishop, and the legendary sax player Bud Shank . Ric Nelson (keyboards and vocals) Ric Nelson-Moved to Humboldt County from the San Francisco Bay Area in 1986 where he had began his music career playing drums for various rock and blues bands; most notably the Steve Welch Band. When he was 17 he switched instruments to keyboards, having been raised with classical piano training since the age of five. He began playing keyboards for the rock band Brazen and then the progressive rock band Palace who had developed a large following in the Bay Area. After moving to Humboldt County he began playing with "The Kynd" and later moved to the Arcata based folk rock group "Home Front". Four years and two CD’s later Home Front disbanded and he spent the next five years with the Joyce Hough band. He began playing with the Clint Warner Band 5 years ago who were fortunate enough to be able to share the stage with performers like Tommy Castro, Joe Bonomassa, Greg Allman, Joan Jett, Cheap Trick, Molly Hatchet, and Foreigner. Jim Dale (bass and vocals) Jim is a music veteran of 30 years and has been a mainstay in the music scene in Humboldt County. Jim's family musical legacy stretches generations as he learned guitar from his father who plays live music until this day. He is Dr Squid's resident expert in building the rhythm from the bottom up. Jen Benoit (vocals) The newest addition to Dr Squid is homegrown right here in Humboldt County! A newcomer to the ranks of gigging professional musician, Jen cut her teeth singing everything from choir, to karaoke and open mics. Silken to the ears, Jen moves effortlessly from soul to pop, country to funk, disco to infinity and beyond! As a budding percussionist, Jen adds flavor and rhythmic nuance to Dr. Squid's highly danceable grooves. Dr Squid is Humboldt County's hottest dance band.
