About SquareWon
Hello! We are SquareWon. Thanks for checking out our site!
Based out of NYC, and playing in every borough and festival that will have us, we are a new funk-rock band with a bluesy twist. Engendered by the emotive force of Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan, the gospel of Ray Charles, the billowing horns of Tower of Power, and the tight, driving grooves of Stevie Wonder, we aim to blow the roof off of wherever we play.
Though the band itself is only five months old, our collective 130 years of musical experience lends to our incredibly tight sound. Plus we like each other so you know, that helps.
Our founding members include Alex Marchica on lead vocals and keyboards, Phil Peters on drums, Jon Lijoi on trumpet, Brad Mulholland on baritone and tenor saxophone, Dillon Garrett on trombone, and Colin Dooman on bass. Marchica is our band manager and does the song writing and arranging for us while Lijoi heads our horn section (writing and co-writing horn lines), and Peters coordinates our rhythm section. Peters, Mulholland, and Garrett also assist in co-arranging/writing songs/horn lines. Clearly its a very collaborative process.
How we envision our band to be for both ourselves and our audience is cathartic. We want to make you dance and feel relieved from start to finish. If you do not feel something by the time the set is over, your money back guaranteed.
Gearing up to record our first E.P. at Architekt Studios with two time Grammy nominated chief engineer Mike Ferretti, we are slating its release for this summer. As preparation for our studio sessions, we are amidst playing all over the greater New York City area so keep an ear out for our us blowing a roof off sometime soon near you.
