ZRŮDA: An exploration of Psychedelic Synth Metal Out of the ashes of Rochester, NY’s prog-punk, math-funk trio Gaylord & Athens, GA power metal trio Lazer/Wulf, comes a new super group based in Atlanta, GA named ZRŮDA. The Psychedelic Synth metal quartet is made up of guitarist/keyboardist Core Atoms, Drummer Drew Verstraete, guitarist Bryan Aiken & bassist Sean Peiffer, with contributions by all on vocals. Together the four form a live sonic monster of epic proportions. On May Day 2011 the band released their first e.p., self titled, the disc boasts 4 songs produced by Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher and mixed by veteran engineer Tom Tapely (Tom Morello, Incubus, Bruce Springsteen). The music of ZRŮDA is as forceful as it is fantastic with themes ranging from Aztec Sacrifice to android love, gorgons and atomic-age robots brought to life by an underwater oil spill. Their immense sound & bold imagery bridges the unique to the universal. Equally brutal and beautiful, psychedelic and synth-laden, ZRŮDA’s tentacles touch on elements of funk, surf & math rock and classic heavy metal. Recently, at the conclusion of their show, an awe-stricken fan shouted, “Go back to space you f***ers!” The fact is… ZRŮDA never left. -A.P.
