About The Mohawks

There are at least two bands using this name.

1. The cult British funk and jazz band of the 1960s made up of moonlighting London session musicians fronted by the legendary Hammond organist Alan Hawkshaw. The project was the clever idea of some guy at KPM music in the 60's who decided to release a bunch of incredibly groovy and funky library music tracks and package it under the name "The Mohawks". The Champ is perhaps their best known and certainly most sampled tune.

2. It all began in the summer of 2005 when SconX (Dragos), Alex Ciocan and Gigi met a guitarist called Dragos Crifca. The trio had a band called Anti Social before Crifca joined the band. The guys decide to change their name into "The Mohawks" and write their lyrics in English so everybody can understand their message. Soon they had their first gig in Piatra Neamt which proved to be a succes, followed by a series of shows around Moldova and a festival in Timisoara.Sofro (Razvan) joins the band in May 2006. Although they are only 16 and 17 years old they want their message to be taken seriously for they are against racism and everything related to it, including nazis and fascists. Their musical style is a combination of anarcho-punk and hardcore punk with 80's influences.
