About Larkham and Hall
“Music with lyrics this good is the kind of daydream we need in England to reignite a spark for credible new songwriters” – NME
A spellbinding musical experience with two guitars, two voices, a cajon and a harmonica brace. Add to that the flamboyant and passionate violin and piano of Charlie Rose, who often accompanies, and you have yourself a huge sound. The songs Sarah Larkham and Elliot Hall create are equal parts faded romance and passion, with a little rock growl creeping in that hints at a life growing up listening to Janis Joplin. Both have an innate sense of what it takes to create melodic beauty, interlacing vocal harmonies with expertly crafted lyrics, pulling at the heart-strings. Their entertaining live shows seamlessly ‘genre-skip’, interweaving shimmering Americana with lyric-led uptempo latin rhythms, rock and blues, displaying their wide influences from Bob Dylan to Steve Van Zandt, Fleetwood Mac to Cuban salsa.
Thoughtful, deep and dark Americana with a lyrical intensity rarely seen in these times. Brooding singer songwriter Elliot Hall writes about 'laudably unsexy subjects such as drug addiction, homelessness and prostitution, all imbued with a rare honesty and passion' (Anna Britten Venue Magazine), winner 2012 Bristol songwriter of the year, 'Breath taking and awe inspiring' Alex Lee Thompson NME, and is joined by singer songwriter Sarah Larkham ('an astounding voice' Laura Rawlings BBC Radio Bristol 'achingly soulful' Bristol Folk Festival 'A vocal dynamo, a true songbird of Americana' Bluesdoodles Magazine) with a rare blend of confidence and vulnerability often compared with Stevie Nicks.
'Fans of poetry, folk and rock should pay attention' NME.
