About Giorgi Latsabidze

Georgian-American pianist and composer Giorgi Latso (Latsabidze) has a sparkling international career, is internationally recognized for his electrifying performances and insightful interpretations, consolidated his reputation as one of the world’s foremost interpreters of the central European classical repertoire, touring repeatedly world-wide, performing to prestigious venues, in recital and with international orchestras and conductors. According to 2017 Guide-U Giorgi Latso is ranked among the 10 top famous artists in Georgia. Whenever Giorgi Latso makes music, his soul opens to reveal depths of understanding. His pianism blends abundant power with exquisite profundity, scintillating dexterity with heart- melting lyricism, emotional expression, and crystal clarity with transcendent beauty, qualities combined in a mesmerizing process of artistic alchemy. Saluted by the international press for his "...internal wealth and 'aristocratic' spirit” (London Reingold Magazine), his deep sensitivity and exhilarating personality “a technically brilliant pianist imbued with a poignant lyricism and genuine profundity” (WUK Kulturhaus, Vienna), his "great sense of style and emotional depth...” (Mezzo, Paris). His hands first met the keys of a piano when he was three years old, an experience he vividly remembers to this day, as he knew at that moment that this instrument would be the most important thing in his life. Born into a non-musical family, the music appealed to him so much that he began composing piano about the age of five, he began his piano lessons at the age of seven. At age 18, Latso began studying at the Tbilisi State Conservatory with Rusudan Khodzava, a former student of great Russian pianist Alexander Goldenweiser, pupil of Siloti, close friend of Tolstoy and Scriabin. He moved to the United States in 2005 to pursue his doctoral degree in piano performance at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles under the mentorship of Dr. Stewart Gordon himself a pupil of Walter Gieseking, a French-born German pianist and composer. Winning fourth prize in the 1998 at E. Porrino International Piano Competition in Cagliari as the youngest contestant marked the beginning of Latso’s international career. This was followed by the First Prize at Rubinstein International Piano Competiton in Paris (1999); First Prize at Yehudi Menuhin International Competition in Salzburg (2004); First Prize at Los Angeles Young Artists’ International Competition (2005).
