About Pat Matula & The Lone star Playboys

“Pat Matula Jr. was destined to be a musician before he was even born” his mother said……. “He would always be kicking to the music when we watched his daddy play”

As it turns out her statement became reality!

At the young age of just 5 years old Pat began playing drums with his dad Pat Sr. “The One Man Band of Victoria Texas”. He played drums for several years and still does on occasion. As he entered into junior high school he wanted to pick up the saxophone to add more to his daddy’s Czech brand of music. As it turned out one of Pats good friends talked him into going into orchestra class to play the violin instead. It didn’t take Pat long to figure out how to turn the violin into a FIDDLE! He began playing country fiddle music by ear during his first year of violin at age 12.

Pats family took him to the local country dances where he was most always encouraged by the local musicians to get on stage and play his fiddle. He taught himself everything he knows on fiddle with a few pointers from his local town hero’s Ricky Powers, Jake Glidewell, and Wade Stockton before long he was unstoppable and playing 100 plus dates a year.

He eventually played with every band in the area, and moved on to the Houston music scene in 1998 pursuing a career in music and working construction on the side. Pat was highly influenced by the Western Swing sounds of Bob Wills & The Texas playboys among other greats such as Johnny Gimble, George Strait, Asleep At The Wheel, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, Johnny Bush, Faron Young, Buck Owens, and George Jones just to name a few. Pat played with local artist Patrick Murphy for 10 plus years and also worked with Beaumont, TX. recording artist Zona Jones for 5 years on the road sharing the stage with many other great artist’s.
He has since began pursuing his career as a country singer as well along with his band The Lone Star Playboy’s.

His brand of Honky-Tonk country music is sure to please your ears, and if you love traditional country music you’re gonna need a dancing partner too!
