Eki Shola

Eki Shola (Eh-key Show-lah): I am a gift from God. Seriously, that is the meaning of Eki. The definition of this beautiful but pressure-inducing name was to be slightly deflated 20 plus years later when I traveled to Japan and kept seeing Eki at every train stop – apparently it also means station in Japanese.

I was born in London, given a bi-ethnic name by Jamaican parents, later emigrated to New York at 9yrs of age, then found myself transplanted to California years later. Jamaica is my cultural roots; London the place where I remember my childhood memories; New York City the place that offered amazing gritty life adventures and Northern Cali is my current abode.

I live in a relaxed atmosphere with an abundance of glorious weather, where I currently reside with my restaurateur-to-be hubby, a 3yr old daughter going on 13 and a 7 year old son who still loves to give his mamma hugs and kisses – in public.

I choose to share my music and writing with you because I believe connectedness equates to fulfillment for all. If my story or my music helps one individual to feel more connected to themselves and others then I have succeeded. I have struggled to find a way to make a bigger difference in this world and I still am learning what the answer is.

Perhaps the answer lies in the journey rather then the destination. What I do know however, is that I can share my experiences with you and hope that it leaves an impression that will make you maybe laugh, cry, feel, be in the moment, or just feel connected.
