Cat Vs. Rat

Countless myths and legends tell the origin of the Chinese zodiac, but the most widely known legend is that of the Jade Emperor inviting all the animal kingdom to partake in a great race. The grand prize would be given to the first twelve animals to cross the river. Each would be given to a year of the Chinese zodiac system named after them, in order of appearance. All the animals were very excited and the news spread rapidly throughout the entire animal kingdom. The Cat and Rat were the best of friends. Both were very excited about the news of the great race and immediately started daydreaming on how they would cross the river. On the day of the race, Cat wanted to take a little nap before partaking in the race, since it take a lot of effort and engery.
Troubled stirred amongst the dear friends as the Rat's need to win turned into an obsession. Instead of waking up Cat, Rat silently sneaked out and sprinted to the shore of the river. After enjoying his splendid nap in the sun, Cat woke up to discover the race was already over and Rat had finished first. He was devastated and furious. That is why Cat and the Rat hate each other until this day.
