Naim Amor

Naim was amazing. He keeps getting better and better, if that's possible. We love his French/Tucson fusion, but this was entirely interpretations of French classics and originals. The clarinetist just masterful, the bassist impeccable. Naim's singing and guitar playing transportive. When I first heard "only French tonite" I had my doubts. Quickly dispelled. My first time in the Century Room. I understand why it's becoming a lead jazz venue. I was buying margaritas in the Cup Room 25 years ago when Al Perry (the originator of "Cow Metal's) worked the front desk. The only glitch in the evening was when Naim prepared to do an encore that the audience obviously wanted and the MC jumps on the stage and cuts Naim off. Naim was gracious but distressed, as was everyone else. We were treated instead to a self serving "That's interesting but let me talk about myself for awhile" monologue about the MCs family trip to France 30 years ago. Maddening. I've never seen that before. And then? Show over. Lights up. A note to this MC. Don't ever do that again. Try listening for a change. "It ain't over til it's over "
