About Marcus Corowa

Marcus Corowa has been turning heads the past 5 years: performing with Australia’s most well-known artists; winning music awards; presenting; and doing what he loves best – gigging across Australia. Growing up in far north Queensland, Marcus’ earliest memories are of eating mangoes and playing the guitar – music is second nature to him. He draws on his Aboriginal and South Sea Islander heritage to create captivating and fun music with elements of blues, jazz and funk. Marcus’ accolades include winning the ‘Most Promising New Talent in Music’ award at the 2012 Deadly Awards (on the back of his debut EP, ‘The Greater You’), and being a finalist in the 2011 APRA Professional Development Awards, and 2010 Q Song Awards. He is a regular face at music events (Yabun Festival; Homeground Festival; Corroboree Festival; Cobargo Folk Festival; Nerang Folk and Blue Grass Festival; FUSE Festival; Spirit Festival; Tjungu Festival; Bowen Cultural and Seafood Festival; AWME – 2013; Brunswick Festival; 2013 Deadly Awards); and has played with some of the best in the industry (Mark Seymour; Toni Childs; Marcia Hines; Christine Anu; Archie Roach; Jessica Mauboy; Casey Donovan; Linda and Vicka; James Reyne; and Frank Yamma). In 2015 Marcus will perform in the musical, The Rabbits, with Opera Australia and Barking Gecko Theatre Company. He has also been busy song writing for the soundtrack of the documentary “For My People” (a documentary about Indigenous basketballer, Patty Mills), and 2015 will see the first season of the musical, The New Black, which he wrote and composed for. As well as this, his fans will be glad to know that his second EP, ‘Water and Air’ will be released in 2015. Produced by Damien Leith, and including a track co-written with X-Factor’s Reigan Derry, it will feature Marcus’ original music and will be well worth the wait.
