About The Tiger Kings
Four veterans of the Atlanta/Athens music scene who love to play great music anytime, anywhere. The Tiger Kings play 100-proof, soulful southern roots-rock covers from Decatur, Georgia—tasteful tunes lit with tight grooves, vocal harmonies, and a good time for all.
We take our name from the lore of prohibition in Atlanta. By 1886, the city outlawed alcohol, launching a slew of quasi-legal bars which sold tickets to see an animal oddity, namely a blind tiger, while giving away "free" drinks. Often, it was "blind tiger whiskey" — booze bonafide to burn the hair off the devil’s tail.
Around 1910, criminal networks purchased out of state alcohol, shipped it into the city. The bosses of this Atlanta whiskey underground were rightly named "The Tiger Kings."
We take our name from the lore of prohibition in Atlanta.
