Julia Ann

julia ann has been singing since she was old enough to make a sound. she grew up singing in the church choir & then began to study music in elementary school. she did several musicals such as "annie get your gun," "annie," "hello dolly," "the sound of music," "grease" (to name a few). she studied piano under the late nancy atkins, & hannah england. she has been trained vocally by ruth mosley, dr.bob johnson & the late dr. julian doke brookshire. @ the age of 15 she was accepted to the NC SCHOOL OF THE ARTS. she received "superior ratings" in solo & ensamble 8-12 grades. she performed for the NC JR. SYMPHONY @ the age of 9 & stopped @ the age of 12. she was in chorus & show choir several yrs. she also played in jazz band in high school. in '92 she won jr. miss. america & recieved a perfect score in the miss.america pageant system in '93. (julia is also a miss. america sanctioned judge.) she won several talent shows growing up but soon decided that she didnt want her love of music to be judged or used as a competition. she simply wanted to perform. @ the age of 18 she toured w/her first southern gospel group "the gospel travelers." she came off the road w/them & went back out w/a country venue "tripple take." in '95 she was 1 of 7 performers choosen from 1500 people in dollywood to perform in the "fire on the mountain show." she only performed 3 weeks & was diagnosed w/cancer. this tragic report sent the performer home to NC to battle this horrible disease. the following 9 yrs julia ann had over 24 seperate procedures for various types of cancer through out her body. she was told in '06 that she would never sing again. the cancer had moved from her thyroid to her throat & had to be removed. that didnt stop this driven young woman. less than a month after surgery she was on the rd singing better than ever. in the past 3 yrs she has sang w/"mountain top express," "leicester country grass," "flat broke," & now has her band "laurel ridge bluegrass." she also does some traveling w/the "bluegrass buffet band" which is made up of members from all over WNC. " . she has opened up for the "blackwood quartet" & performed regularly @ "ghost town in the sky" theme park as well as the "carolina nights theater" & "the carolina opry." this past yr she played "bluegrass first class" in asheville nc w/ many of bluegrass best acts. in 2010 she was honored enough to feature grammy-winning fiddle player, Bobby Hicks. George Giddins of "the Dillards" also joins her from time to time. in 2010 she was featured by Darrell Webb Band @ Cherokee Bluegrass Festival & was also part of the Cherokee All-Stars. she did a very special performance during Bluegrass 1st Class w/Darrell Webb. she has 2 solo cd's out & a live cd w/her band.julia featured Clay Jones, formerly of Mountian Heart at the 2011 WNC State Fair.January 2012 julia opened up for country music nominateed entertainer of the year, John Wiggins. her unique sound & wonderful testimony is what makes this vocalist stand heads above the rest! she will make you laugh, cry, smile, think, & ALWAYS leave you breathless...BUT WAIT, NOW there is MORE! In 2012 Julia got to perform before the BEST bluegrass band to EVER EXIST in the history of grass! THIS, she says is "my finest moment!" She played on the same stage as the MULTI GRAMMY WINNING BLUEGRASS ALBUM BAND! Now, Jules is living in Nashville, TN & has added "actress" to her already accomplished & astounding resume! Watch for her on ABC on Wednesday nights this fall! She is SURE to turn up "Nashville" a notch or 2! In her "spare" time (does SHE have spare time?) she is traveling to the "Queen City" of Charlotte, NC & working with grammy winning producer, QZ DaMusiqman, & has recently signed as the FIRST FEMALE COUNTRY ARTIST on a "hip hop" label & is PROUD to be part of the "Legends Of The City Entertainment" family. She is working on some surprises that MIGHT just include 1 well known, grammy winning rap artist, Petey Pablo! STAY TUNED...UPDATED BIO (October 23, 2017) In May 2017 Julia Ann performed at what she referred to as the "turning point" of her career concert. She traveled to Sandy Hook, KY and was part of the "Keith Whitley Memorial Concert." Shortly after that she was nominated for the "Torch Award" by the board of the "Keith Whitley Fingerprint On Music Awards." July 1st she traveled back to Sandy Hook, KY where she performed at the awards show and was a presenter as well. Shortly after she signed under management with Phyllis Salter Gann of Salter Gann Universal Promotion and Management. October 20, 2017 Julia signed with Red Room Records.
