About Fetherstone
Having just returned from a 4-year stint in London, Fetherstone is planting her seeds back into the Sydney scene. A seasoned jazz vocalist and composer in Australia, Briana’s move to the UK in 2015 sparked a new musical adventure; electro-pop-folk project ‘Fetherstone’. Named after her 95-year-old artistic grandmother, Fetherstone was born in London and has seen Briana release a debut EP, 2 singles and she is now writing and producing the project’s second EP. Briana dove into the loop pedal and beats world while living in London and developed a solo show, which she's been performing in London, Sydney, Prague and Brno for 3 years. Some notable performances include the Camden Assembly supporting Frida Sundemo (SWEDEN), Richer Unsigned Live at Melomania (LDN), TV Nights Upstairs at Ronnie Scott's (LDN) and Venue 505 (SYD).
Fetherstone's songwriting is a mash up of her jazz past, electro pop pursuits in London and a new love of folk, country and rock. But the overwhelming thing you take away from Fetherstone’s music is her need to tell you a story. Influenced by greats such as James Taylor and Joni Mitchel, it’s built into Briana’s system to narrate and she does so in a very introspective way. Aside from her personal stories that drive some of her tunes, Fetherstone is embarking on a completely new series of music which is all about telling other peoples stories. ‘Unspoken Stories’ will see Fetherstone travelling to different cities around the world, searching for stories from friends and strangers. She will team up with songwriters, producers and artists of other mediums to bring those stories to life, record and release them, and then travel back to the city where the story came from to perform the song. The first single’ “Ticket to You” was a story from a 9 year old girl in London, read more about the single and the series at https://www.fetherstone.com/unspokenstories.
The next single to drop, "Jackson", was written in London on Briana's 3rd Christmas away from home, two weeks after her 3rd nephew was born. This song exposes a longing to be with family and how heartbreaking it can be to miss special events like new babies and Christmas pudding with family.
Now based in Sydney, the single launch at Sydney’s Venue 505 in November marked the first Fetherstone gig with a full band and Bri has solo shows at Cafe Lounge (Folskwagon) and Cockatoo Island to close out 2019.
