About Meagan de Lima
Meagan de Lima is a 25-year-old R&B-rooted singer-songwriter who favours ballads that are low- key and aching in nature. She grew up in a very musical environment where everyone in her family was either a musician or a visual artist. This all stemmed from her grandfathers, where one of them was a professional jazz guitarist while the other was a saxophonist who lead his own big band in Nairobi, Kenya. Due to her family history, it came as no surprise when Meagan started singing around the same time she started to talk. As a kid, she soaked up the soulful sounds of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Billie Holiday and was eventually drawn to pop-oriented contemporary R&B like Toni Braxton, TLC and Destiny’s Child.
As an adult, she is admired for her velvet tone, her natural way of playing guitar and her sophisticated songwriting. Upon listening to the artist, Canadian Beats Reviews said: “Meagan’s music is the perfect example of what soft, soulful R&B can sound like, in a generation that needs a reminder."
Her first major steps as a recording artist were made in 2015, when she released her first EP “Like You Do,” which was produced by Bob Ezrin (prod. Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Kiss). After working with Meagan, Ezrin stated:
“Who knew that we could find this much soul at Humber College!? Meagan has that natural swing and sway in both her writing and her singing that we usually associate with classic R&B from south of the border. It was truly refreshing - and a lot of fun - to arrive at Humber and be able to work with this talented young woman on her project. She’s the real deal!”
Meagan’s major accomplishments to date include performing at the 2017 Invictus Games, the 2017 Toronto Blues Society Competition at the Toronto Jazz Festival, winning the 2013 Honey Jam competition, as well as opening for Holly Cole and Emilie-Claire Barlow at the Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival. Meagan released her first music video for her song titled "Unfold Me" Fall of 2018. She is currently working with Nova Music Group (management), Full Music Group (distribution, marketing, and promotion) and 80 Empire (production) to release her first full-length album anticipated for release Spring of 2020. Meagan will be releasing four singles leading up to this LP in order to build her discography, sign her first publishing and independent record deal while creating a conversation world-wide of who she is as an R&B artist and what she has to offer.
