About Bayou City Swing

Bayou City Swing draws inspiration from the music of Django Reinhardt, adds Houston flair to it, and spreads it around the Space City and beyond.

Gypsy jazz, continental jazz, or jazz manouche; are all names for a style of jazz combining the melodic/improvisatory flair of Roma musicians with the swing rhythms and harmonies of the 1920's and 30's jazz era. The style was popularized most notably by Django Reinhardt and his group Le Quintette du Hot Club de France. Django, along with violinist Stephane Grappelli, championed the style and represented one of the first important non-American contributions to jazz music.
