About Chris & Company
Christopher Rodriguez started playing drums at 6, bass at 9, cello at 12, guitar at 14, and sax at 16. Along the way, he picked up piano and harmonica (his favorite instrument). He studied orchestration with the world renowned Black composer Ulysses Kay and composition with two time Grammy winner John Corigliano. In 1991, he received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Music from The Graduate Center - City University of New York.
He was one of New York’s most sought after sidemen. He was a frequent guest of Blues legend and Grammy winner Johnny “Clyde” Copeland. He added New York Street and Latino flavor to Copeland’s brand of Texas Blues. His work ranges from Hard Rock with a guest appearance on Circle 7’s debut album, Big Band Jazz with Danny Repole, Jazz with Urban Erotica (as heard on HBO’s Real Sex 23 & 25), and Blues with regular guest appearances with NYC legend “Big Ed” Sullivan’s Blues Review.
In New Mexico, he’s played with the 44th Army Band, the local 70’s Funk revival band Mama Knows, Reggae Singer/Songwriter Norma Frasier, the FMBC Choir, and local legends Harvey & the Prowlers.
Rodriguez’s latest group, Chris & Company, is one of the best efforts made from among the rout of his Neo-Soul contemporaries. He takes a Funk back-beat, introduces elements of Latin percussion, Acid-Jazz, and Blues into the mix, and creates a rich blend of sound that as he says, “Keeps ’em poppin’!” “If they’re not dancing, I wasn’t there that night.” Chris & Company presents a fresh flavor to the Albuquerque area that leaves you wanting more. Check them out!
