About fajjr+ali
fajjr+ali is a pop duo based in New York City that brings a completely new image to American pop music.
Currently fajjr+ali are writing and recording their first EP. They have recently released their first single “Without You” and just completed their second “Got To Be”. Combining poetic and heartfelt storytelling with a contemporary sound, fajjr+ali definitely bring a fresh perspective to the world of music.
Just days into their freshman year at NYU, Fajjr met Ali and showed him how to find a free meal on campus. After countless nights of free dinner and karaoke, Fajjr and Ali became close friends and bonded over their love of music and free food.
Ali grew up in Massachusetts and is the son of an Arab-American man and a Bostonian-Irish woman, so he had starkly contrasting influences of American and Eastern cultures throughout his childhood. Although he had an affinity to all forms of visual art, his mother always said music was his “first love”. Fajjr was born and raised in the rural hills of Schuykill County in Pennsylvania. The daughter of Pakistani parents, Fajjr grew up as a first generation South Asian-American. This meant she was constantly surrounded by the world of Bollywood, but at the same (thanks to her older brothers) had no choice but to love A Tribe Called Quest and Tupac.
Since Fajjr and Ali are 90’s babies, the ‘Dirty Pop’ music of N’Sync and Britney Spears courses through their veins. Their university training in theater also strengthened their love of all things Broadway. With these types of influences, fajjr+ali are set apart by the their unique blend of cultures and styles, and their refusal to be pinned down to one genre of music.
