Heavy Hangs The Albatross

Heavy Hangs The Albatross is one of the fresh new sounds coming out of the DFW metal scene. Founded in early 2011 by lead guitarist Kevin Castro, Heavy Hangs The Albatross combines the forces of old school metalcore with the intensity of modern metalcore and post-hardcore to generate a style that hasn't been seen much in today's scene. The bands name was derived from the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The quote "Instead of the cross, the Albatross About my neck was hung'' signifies the burden that the albatross (a very large seabird, with a wingspan of 10 feet) was posing to the man on which it "hung heavily" on. In which the albatross portrays a burden, a regret of something that is always there in the end, no matter when it happened. Everyone has a regret or event that burdens them and so our name portrays that everyone is the same, no one is any more special than the rest. We are all equal. In November 2011, they released their first demo, receiving extremely positive reception by fans and fellow local acts. This was only the beginning. The bands second EP "Loading: New Chapter" was released on February 2, 2013 via Bandcamp, Amazon, and iTunes. There is merch (shirts, CD's, etc.) also available on Bandcamp. Once more, much positive praise was received. New album, The Grand Reset, was released December 16, 2014. An amazing turnout of sales and wave of support was begun from that date forward. The album had gained praise for its diversity and structure. First week sales of 215 copies and a peak of #38 on the itunes metal chart. Last show played July 31, 2015.
