About Moimir Papalescu & The Nihilists
Moimir Papalescu & The Nihilists was established in 2003 to bring a totally new vibe to the Czech music scene after years of bore. The underground sensation of small Czech clubs turned into a massive Nihilists fever with the release of the debut album Analogue Voodoo in October 2004. The record won the Czech Grammy award for the album of the year and The Nihilists became the Czech alternative scene leader. The great success of the record led to its re-release on Berlin based Pale Music label.
The band formed by electronic music pioneer Moimir Papalescu, charismatic glamourous singer La Petite Sonja and punky guitarist & dandy singer Hank Jesus Manchini together with some guest members like the fabulous saxophonist Peter Van Krbetz and the wild drummer Wratislaw Placheta, present original and evergreen concept of music.
The very stylish Nihilists sound is based on the influences of Nancy Sinatra pop, campy rockers The Cramps, new wave classics Joy Division or electronics of Kraftwerk and Cabaret Voltaire. It's something like new rocknroll that absorbed electro, disko, punk and classic rock music elements.
