About Jeff Ingersoll
For many bluegrass guitar players, innovation looks like a variation on Lester Flatt’s timeless G-run or a new take on the iconic body of work created by Tony Rice. Not so for Jeff Ingersoll, an up-and-coming guitarist whose genre-bending playing fluently navigates myriad musical and cultural boundaries while steadfastly refusing to be confined by any of them. Ingersoll cut his teeth playing traditional music in the Tug Hill region of upstate New York before delving into progressive acoustic music, first with his brother, Aaron, and later as a student in East Tennessee State University’s world-renowned traditional music program. Drawing from a deep well of influences ranging from the classic bluegrass of his childhood to the jazz, swing, Celtic and pop music he discovered during his tenure at ETSU, Ingersoll has earned accolades for his work with a broad spectrum of performing ensembles. In 2013, he secured first place in the Norwich Bluegrass Festival Band Competition as a member of the Ingersoll Brothers. Most recently, Ingersoll has performed as a member of the bluegrass fusion group The Honey Chasers and in an eponymous quartet, performing songs from his recently recorded album “Peering Through the Bars.”
