About Sofia Scattarreggia

Sofia Scattarreggia is a half-Italian half-American soprano from Spain praised for her warm tone and her facility with languages. She received her BM in Voice Performance at the Florida State University, and her MM in Voice Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of music. She is currently pursuing her DMA in Voice Performance and Literature at Eastman under the instruction of acclaimed soprano Nicole Cabell.

Sofia has been cast in numerous roles, including Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Eurydice in Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice, the title role in Seymour Barab’s Little Red Riding Hood, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi (performances cancelled due to COVID-19), Phaino in Soper’s Here be Sirens, Lady with a Cake Box from Argento’s Postcard from Morocco, and other roles. Most recently, Sofia completed a Professional Artist residency with Songfest (2022), and has performed with Musiktheater Bavaria (2022), at the Wiener Festpiele (2021), and with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival (2016).

Sofia has also been active in the world of new music, as evidenced in her work with Eastman Opera Theater’s production of Here be Sirens, having premiered several award-winning vocal works such as the role of Blanca in Justin Giarusso’s A World Apart, and the song cycles While Roses Grow (Strobel) and Where Dreams Come True (Guthrie). She has worked with current composers such as Jake Heggie, Shiela Silver, John Musto, and Libby Larsen through her residency at Songfest.

Sofia has received numerous accolades from competitions, including being semifinalist in the Music International Grand Prix (2022), a Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition competitor in the Florida District (2022), winning 3rd prize in the Friends of Eastman Opera Competition (2021), winning 1st place in NYSMTA’s Heddy Killian Vocal Competition, winning the Hannah J. Beaulieu Competition for Opera Development at Florida State University (2018) and competing in the finals of SERNATS (2018). Sofia has also been awarded for her excellence in music academia, and is a proud member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honor society.

In addition to singing, Sofia also coaches diction, is a fluent pianist, and has a passion for teaching voice. She speaks English, Italian, Spanish, French, German and Catalan, and is currently learning Russian. She currently teaches secondary voice lessons at the Eastman School of Music, lectures on voice at the University of Rochester River Campus, and primary voice lessons at the Eastman Community Music School.
