About The Howling Lords
The Howling Lords Dirty blues with that hard-rock edge. The Howling Lords are a three piece group from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland, who play “whiskey-sodden blues-rock with balls”, according to music journalist Chris Herron. The group are currently recording their second album which is planned for release in 2018. Formed in late 2015, the band released their first single ‘Bad for Me’ in 2016 and a self-titled debut album full of “sludgy grooves and a confident swagger” (Rock and Roll Traffic) in early 2017. This success was quickly followed up by a collection of live videos and their ‘Dead Letters’ EP. Guttural, gritty garage rock sound with heavy riff laden tracks reminiscent of the Black Keys and Jack White, to more stripped back numbers channelling the vintage vibes of 1930’s blues and country artists like Robert Johnson and the Carter Family. The Howling Lords established a solid reputation for their skilled and energetic performances early on and were invited to play at a variety of local events including the annual Stramash festival and the inaugural On the Level music showcase in Stornoway. Their location on a windswept and salt-blasted rock on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean has not hindered this band’s determination to persistently expand its horizons: riding high on the momentum gained from their initial achievements, the Howling Lords have become prolific live performers, playing and hosting gigs throughout Scotland and embarking on a series of self-organised tours across the UK. Their unique sound and charisma – described by one critic as “absolutely massive…blasting the audience square in the face with thick, guttural riffs” (Rock and Roll Traffic) – earned them a place at XPO North 2016 and 2017 and a well-received appearance at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival 2017. The trio have been mentioned in countless music blogs and have featured on BBC Radio, Jim Gellatlys’ Amazing Radio and have received extensive airplay on various international radio stations and podcasts. From busking on the streets of Portugal to entertaining the crowds at one of Scotland’s best-loved music festivals, this band are going from strength to strength and making it look easy. It is not surprising, then, that during their whirlwind Scottish city tour in autumn 2017 they were cited as “the best blues-rock Scotland has to offer” (New Hellfire Club Gonzo Division). The howling lords play their brand of fuzzy blues with big riffs primal drums and sheer raw vocal delivery to make you drink through any thing
