About Paypaman
Take metaphors, dope lyrics, style and story- telling culminated in one and this sums up Chicago artist Paypa. Known as one of the greats in the Chicago hip-hop scene, Paypa has always made his mark on music with a finesse delivery and classic lines.
Coming upon the Westside of Chicago Paypa wrote his first rap around the age of 10 and hasn’t looked back since. The influence of his brother, who was a DJ, sparked his curiosity in hip-hop and became his focus. After leaving home to reside in Atlanta, GA, it wasn’t until he came back home did he decide this was the journey he was about to embark on. Spitting a free-style regularly was rhyme practice for Paypa but recording an actual song is what made him realize he had talent. Being influenced by NaS, N.W.A., Biggie, Outkast and the overall sound of the south, Paypa recorded his first song titled “Hush.” The reaction of his peers reflected his next move and he began his career.
In 2006 he was featured in Source’s “Unsigned Hype” and released a plethora of great music with band mates and child hood friends “Project Mayhem.” The record that broke the group to another level of success was “Lo Sweaters,” that was feature on major outlets including MTV, Fakeshoredrive, Nahright.com and BBC.co out of the UK.
His “Weed and Champagne” single gained major notoriety with major features in Pitchfork and Source not to mention it was a Fan Favorite. ” After setting his self apart as a stand alone artist, Paypa released full projects on the mix-tape circuit including, “Get Ya Paypa Up” Da Paypawork, No Room in The Limo and more.
Today Paypa’s goal is to put out good music and create cinematic art, leveraging partnerships with brands and give a different perspective to Chicago hip-hop. Labeling his fusion of music and movies as “Art,” visual imaging is his new found passion.
His newly released short film “Paypaman” is based on a character he created based on things he’s seen and done in his life. It symbolizes changes people go through from a hip-hop cinematic view of story telling. With a few notches under his belt in the game, Paypa is the evolution of many lifetimes fused into one man.
