Bettie Serveert

Bettie Serveert is a Dutch indie-rock band. Their name, which translates to 'Bettie serves' is taken from a series of tennis instructional books by Dutch tennis player Betty Stöve, who lost the Wimbledon Ladies singles final in 1977.

Comprising Canadian/Dutch vocalist Carol van Dyk (vocals & guitar), Peter Visser (guitar) and Herman Bunskoeke (bass), they originally formed in 1986 as 'Betty Serveert', but only lasted for 5 months. After De Artsen (the band where Peter and Herman were part of) split up in 1990, Peter and Carol re-started the band in Amsterdam, this time as Bettie Serveert in 1991. Shortly after, Berend Dubbe (drums) and Herman joined them. Bettie Serveert released their debut album Palomine in 1992, which, 34 years after its release, is still a modern indie rock classic, wonderfully blending together influences of Velvet Underground and Neil Young with melancholic lyrics, catchy tunes and a lo-fi-feel.

After releasing the full-length albums Lamprey (1995), Dust Bunnies (1997) and the Velvet Underground cover album Venus In Furs (1998), drummer Berend Dubbe decided to leave and started his own samplepop-project: Bauer, receiving critical acclaim in Netherlands and Belgium. Various talented drummers took the place of Dubbe on the albums that followed between 2000 and 2009 (Private Suit, Log 22, Attagirl and Bare Stripped Naked). During those years, Jeroen Blankert and Gino Geudens of Belgian nineties power pop band Metal Molly, played the drums. Between 2010 and 2019 Joppe Molenaar played drums on Pharmacy of Love, Oh, Mayhem! and Damaged Good.

Bettie Serveert continues to tour extensively, mostly through Western Europe, with Stephan van der Meijden on drums.
