About Angelica Garcia
“Y Grito” and “El Que” are twin singles that mark the blazing, quaking return of NYC-based singer, songwriter, and pop auteur Angélica Garcia. Neon-colored Latin punk ("Y Grito") gives way to a slow-building hurricane of electronic pop ("El Que"), as Garcia arrives at her clearest and most fully realized vision of self. The tracks offer battle-hardened mirror images of the same difficult, at times terrifying work of healing, with Garcia summoning reinforcements from another realm with the intensity of an exorcism.
“Y Grito” and “El Que” follow-up to Garcia's 2020 breakthrough 'Cha Cha Palace', which was featured on several NY Times year-end lists as well as Barack Obama’s annual best-of music list, and brought Garcia to NPR’s Tiny Desk.
Garcia says of the tracks:
"El Que" is tied to "Y Grito" in that they are both battle songs, but while "Y Grito" is impulsive and underhealed, "El Que" is the wise voice of mind over matter. They're both together in the same arena, but they serve different roles. "El Que" knows when and where to use its energy and when to hold back, while "Y Grito" is pure fight.
