About Tracy Yang 楊又臻
Born and raised in Taiwan, Tracy Yang is a jazz composer and pianist based in New York City. She holds a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from Queens College, and a Diploma in jazz composition from Berklee College of Music. Tracy moved to New York in 2016 after studying in Boston for 3 years. Since then she has been leading her own quintet and performed her original music in several renown venues such as Minton's Playhouse, Bar Lunatico, Vivaldi, Tomi Jazz... etc. Tracy has also been writing her own music for Jazz Orchestra and earned several awards. She was part of the 2019 Young Composer Showcase selectees from JEN (Jazz Education Network). The 2019 JEN YCS was performed by the Army Jazz Ambassadors at the JEN conference in Reno, Nevada. She was also both the winner and honorable mention of the 2018 jazz composition contest for women composers from Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra. The performance was part of the earshot jazz festival in Seattle, and featured Sheryl Bailey as a guest artist. Additionally, Tracy has received the Benny Golson Scholarship Award from Berklee College of Music and the Passim Iguana Music Fund grants in 2015.
Tracy is serving as a dance accompanist in the school program of Mark Morris Dance Group. She is currently a member of the BMI jazz composers workshop, directed by Andy Farber, Ted Nash and Alan Ferber.
