About D.J. Rizzo
David “DJ” Rizzo started DJing on his college radio station in a booth constructed of old donated radio hardware that looked a lot like WKRP in Cincinnati. He was soon asked to DJ campus events and eventually that led to mobile DJ work.
While attending college David worked in a record store where he expanded his musical knowledge that had already been broadened by his father’s record collection (which contained everything from Frank Sinatra to the Moody Blues). It was only natural that after college he would continue to DJ and quickly become a record store manager, including for one of the most famous stores in the DC area.
These experiences provided David with a broad taste in music and a knowledge of music and artists from the 40’s to today. His enjoyment of all types of music is what David most likes about DJing weddings, special events, and private parties.
David was “discovered” while DJing a wedding: two fans of his performance suggested he meet their friend who was hiring DJs for a new bar. Soon after meeting him, David was working in his first club scene keeping the dancefloor packed and learning a lot from his more experienced colleagues. A few months later and for the next several years, David was DJing bars and clubs in and around downtown DC and Northern Virginia.
On two occasions David was asked to manage at restaurant/bars where he was already a resident DJ. This gives him a deeper understanding of the bar & nightclub business than the average DJ (he’s even a certified safe food handler). It also led to him being well trained in the laws of the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board - knowledge he puts to use when promoting for his clients. At one such bar he was named the marketing manager, responsible for designing all of their printed promotional materials, advertisements, and even a bikini calendar. He continues to design in support of his DJ work and for other promotional companies. He even designed his own wedding thank you cards.
David has DJed with everything from vinyl records to CDs to computer hard-drives. He has recently started working with music video and advanced digital audio. He has wired and helped design DJ booths and lighting rigs in two successful nightclub bars.
