About Doriene Marselje

Doriene is a very active musician in the contemporary scene, and dedicates most of her time to exploring and investigating new possibilities within existing contemporary repertoire and finding new ways to expand the sound of the harp as we know it by integrating live effects and electronics.

In 2020 Doriene created a new audiovisual sound performance based on contemporary repertoire for solo harp with composers such as Takemitsu, Berio, Yun, Cage and Van Rossum. No average repertoire for the harp, but compositions in which, among other things, with extensive techniques, the extremes of the instrument are explored.

As an extension of this quest for expressive possibilities, she enriches the familiar sound of the harp with special analog effects and creates a whole new sound world. The audience is not only taken along musically, but also visually: Especially for this performance, Doriene worked together with Wouter Marselje & Wilco van Iperen (TU Delft) on the development of an interactive light installation. Wouter and Wilco have designed and constructed an interactive light installation as well as unique software, in cooperation with M91200, for the harp and Fx to directly communicate with the installation.

This extensive, modular installation embraces the Doriene and responds to the frequencies of the harp. As a result, the music can not only be heard, but also seen. That interplay of harp, light and technology is in a landscape.
