About HNRY FLWR
Raised in a cult in Iowa, HNRY FLWR grew up meditating and listening to Indian Ragas in golden domes. There is something strangely meditative about the lyrical sunshine-goth he creates with his evolving band in Brooklyn, NY. He attributes much of his creativity to his mother-- a painter and self-proclaimed psychic who remembers the moment she was born. She moved with her son every few years around Europe and the U.S. in hopes to find a new community. When she decided to move once again, this time to devote herself to christianity in Kansas, he decided to go his own way at sixteen years-old.
HNRY FLWR is a songwriter, producer, and crooner. His 7-piece band is like seeing Leonard Cohen fronting The Flaming lips. With spiritualizing synthesizers, guitars, Ringo-esque krautrock drums and HNRY’s pension for jumping into the audience, the live show is cathartic and joyful while somehow staying mysteriously earnest.
In early 2017, HNRY released two singles that landed him on Deli Magazine’s Best Emerging NYC Psych playlist. By the spring his first music video was out via Alt Citizen, who called the track “melodic, danceable, and devastating.” That June their “brilliant” (GoldFlakePaint) debut EP, FLOWERAMA, was released on Paper Garden Records and produced by David Groener Jr who has worked with Glen Hansard, They Might Be Giants, San Fermin and many more. HNRY kept busy that year, playing 40+ shows in NYC and on tour throughout the US. By the time the year was over, the album had gone viral on Spotify with over 500,000 streams.
In 2018 the success of their breakthrough debut and immersive live shows landed them a tour supporting TEEN in the U.S. and Canada. Locally, The New York Times called them a “buzzy” band during Color Me Bushwick Festival and as the buzz continued throughout the year they landed support slots with Sunflower Bean, Shy Boys, Renata Zeigur, Grandchildren, Sound of Ceres, Uni, Katie Von Schleicher, and more. To finish out the year the Wild Honey Pie produced a psychedelic Buzzsession of HNRY FLWR playing a new song in a beautiful cathedral in Brooklyn they described as “intoxicating, hazy music that lifts you off the ground and transports you to another era.”
To keep the momentum going in 2019 HNRY FLWR and his band did a three week tour to SXSW where they played every day of the festival, sometimes twice a day, and before returning home stopped at the famous Daytrotter/PASTE studios in Iowa for a live in-studio performance.
