About The Bear Hunters

The Bear Hunters formed in late 2009 with musicians Johnny, Justin, Mitch, Nik, and former guitarist Andres Duchesne. Together over the next year they wrote and rehearsed five originals that would represent the origins of their desired sound. In late 2010, after a year of rehearsing that would make their sound tight and razor sharp, and a line-up change adding Mike Eddy Vincent as a guitarist, they finally played their first show at The Rosie for Metal Night. They kept the next few frigid months hot as hell by actively playing shows in their hometown of Sault Ste. Marie. A few new originals were written, showing signs of growth in both songwriting and execution, representing the next step of The Bear Hunters' uncompromising sound. In early 2011, another line-up change resulted in Josh Stephney on guitar. Throughout 2011, The Bear Hunters stayed active in the local metal scene, opening for bands such as Napalm Death, Woods Of Ypres, Hallows Die, The Killing Field, Empyrean Plague, Garden of Bedlam, Fatality, Black Moor, and Sanktuary, among other notable talents. In down time, they assembled key components of recording and finally started recording their full-length debut album. 2012 was a key developmental year for The Bear Hunters, as they acquired the perfect stylized font to represent their band name as a logo, and printed t-shirts adorning the new logo. After their last show of the year in July, the band rested for the rest of the year, working on their personal lives and refining their musical abilities. 2013 started out with a band for The Bear Hunters, playing their first ever show out of town in Sudbury. They have been crafting new music, veering off into different musical paths and challenging themselves while still maintaining the heavy groove that made them all musically connect in the first place. They entered 2013's local Battle Of The Bands and though they didn't win, they made it to the finals, meaning out of all the bands who entered, they scored in the original top three for their musical abilities and performance. The Battle Of The Bands debuted a new look for the band, sporting torn, bloodied camo clothing as if they'd just survived a brawl with a grizzly, as well as debuted their official band banner, which you will be seeing at every show, proudly hanging above the band. Most importantly, they were selected to open for Skeletonwitch on June 3rd with Ancients, CAYM, and local newcomer Crimson Crusade. Throughout 2013, The Bear Hunters played shows throughout their hometown and, after previously failed attempts, decided to try recording their debut album again, this time with James White of White Wreckords, through the last half of 2013. Recording was a success. Moving into 2014, James White had a lot on his plate and wasn't able to dedicate the necessary time to mixing and mastering the album. Not to worry though, as Mitchell Sirie has mixing and mastering experience, and they say that a fresh ear for this process is always recommended anyways. He took over mixing and mastering, a staggering responsibility to undertake while working long weeks at his job and being committed to a second band, but finally, in October 2014, the mixing is done, and mastering is well on its way. On November 29th, 2014, The Bear Hunters will launch their long-awaited debut album Eternal Hibernation through Mitch's own label Edge Of Eden Productions, and at a release show that is in the works. and will have a single for Collapse The Sun available around the end of October. Finally, their debut album will be available to the world, marking 5 long, hard, but incomprehensibly-rewarding years for one of the hardest working bands in Sault Ste. Marie, and they could not be more excited to get to work on their upcoming Aftermath EP and second album! The soundtrack to systematic bear slaughter. https://thebearhunterscanada.bandcamp.com
