About Loïc Bléjean Music

Loïc Bléjean is a uilleann pipes player from Brittany, in West of France. Deeply rooted in Irish traditional music, he is also a very versatile musician, having taken part in many different projects over the last twenty five years. He is currently touring with jazz musicians Gildas & Jean-Baptiste Boclé, with Tad Sargent, with prog-rock band “Children in Paradise”, and with his brother Ronan. After a few years training as a percussionist, Loïc started with the uilleann pipes in 1989, and then traveled a lot in Ireland, where he met many great musicians. His adaptability always led him from recording studios to major festivals. During the nineties, he was a member of influential bands, pop-rock “Glaz”, and French Canadian “Gwazigan”. In 1996, he shared the stage with fiddler Paul Flynn and singer/guitar player David Muldrew for the first of several residencies at McGurk’s, the famous Irish venue in St. Louis, Missouri, where he returned several times, one with his brother Ronan and American singer Nancy Conescu in 1999. In 2009, Loïc and his brother founded Irish Rendez Vous Festival, on the North coast of Brittany, promoting irish traditional music at its very best. The same year, Gay McKeon invited him to play for the “Session with the Pipers” concert series, at the Cobblestone in Dublin, and he performed at the William Kennedy Piping Festival in Armagh, with his younger brother Ronan (accordion). He played again at those two events in 2013, this time with New York concertina player Louisa Bennion, after a U.S. tour earlier that year. In 2010, Loïc joined Boclé brother’s exciting Keltic Project. Their latest album “Rock the Boat”, recorded in NYC and Brittany, has been released in 2015, right before their first irish tour. Loïc started to work with London-born bouzouki player and singer Tad Sargent in 2014. After numerous gigs on both sides of the Channel, they released their first album in early 2017. In 2016, he joined the acclaimed production of “The Taming of the Shrew”, directed by Caroline Byrne, at London’s Shakespeare Globe Theater. A more personal project is on its way, combining irish trad with many influences….Meanwhile, Loïc tours as a solo artist (concerts, workshops, master classes). Loïc Bléjean /// Musician
