Wagwak

WAGWAK are an energetic indie pop band made up of Daehyun Kim and Sangyoung Cho from Seoul, South Korea. They formed in 2010. Having launched their musical career in Korea’s vibrant underground music scene, gigging extensively in Seoul, a highlight of the duo’s earlier days includes backing No Age (Sub Pop Records) at their Seoul show and appearing at festivals such as Korea’s Ssamzie Sound and Green Plugged in Seoul. As well as receiving praise from local media, WAGWAK have recently begun to gain international attention. The duo were mentioned in the New York Times as a Korean band to watch out for, were play-listed in the prominent Guardian-featured Music Alliance Pact and received press coverage from trendy US and UK magazines Paste and 1883. The fashion industry is particularly responsive to WAGWAK, with the band having been handpicked by prestigious brand Lacoste L!VE to play at a launch with Mark Hunter (COBRASNAKE) in Seoul. Sweden’s Weekday also chose the duo to perform at a party for their new store in Stockholm. In 2012-13, WAGWAK toured Canada, the UK and Sweden, where they were picked for ‘Best of the Festival’ at POP Montreal, supported Jeffrey Lewis (Rough Trade) at his UK shows and opened for Beach Fossils (Captured Tracks) in Stockholm. http://soundcloud.com/wagwak
