About Matteo Prefumo
Matteo Prefumo was born in Genova on April 8th, 1991.
He began playing guitar at the age of 8 years watching videos of Pat Metheny and Jimi Hendrix, and approaches to jazz seriously at the age of 14 starting to study great masters Wes Montgomery, Miles Davis, John Coltrane etc.
At 15 he turns to the great guitarist and teacher Alessio Menconi. In The Meantime, he attended various workshops studying with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Peter Bernstein, Kevin Hays, Aaron Goldberg, Antonio Sanchez, Scott Colley, Francisco Mela, Donny McCaslin.
On December 2011 he was accepted at Berklee College Of Music in Boston. In 2012, in additions to his concert activities with his groups, he will take part in several concerts with the Tony Monaco Trio with Dario Panza on drums. In the same year he won the Tiberio Nicola Award as Best Jazz Guitar Player playing with his trio with Pietro Martinelli on Acoustic Bass and Dario Panza on Drums.
On July 2013 during the Tuscia in Jazz Festival he shared the stage with Kurt Rosenwinkel (Guitar), Aaron Parks (Piano), Lorenzo Buffa (Ac.Bass) and Justin Faulkner (Drums) playing the music of John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter and Joe Henderson and on August he did other concerts with the Tony Monaco Trio.
On August 2013 he won as Best Jazz Guitar Player at the Jimmy Woode Award.
On July 2014 he did a concert with the great George Garzone and Paolo Recchia at the International Jazz Festival in La Spezia.
On November 2014 and May 2015 he went in New York City for one month and he had the opportunity to play in Jam Session with incredible musicians like Leo Genovese, Francisco Mela, Peter Slavov, Ben Williams, Kevin Harris, Jure Pukl, Jason Palmer, Stacy Dillard, Marco Panascia among others.
On May 22nd, 2015 he was invited by the great clarinettis Felix Peikli to join his quintet with Takeshi Ohbayashi on Piano, Alexander L. J. Tóth on Db. Bass and Anthony Alan Tóth on Drums.
During these years he had the hopportunity to share the stage with great musicians: George Garzone, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Peter Bernstein, Flavio Boltro, Francisco Mela, Aaron Parks, Justin Faulkner, Eric Revis, Maria Neckam, Michael Campagna, Nicola Angelucci, Tony Monaco, Riccardo Fioravanti, Bebo Ferra, Alessio Menconi, Felix Peikli, Takeshi Ohbayashi, Leonardo Corradi, Aldo Zunino...
