About Smallstone

There are two bands called Smallstone. One of them is an Estonian rock/alternative band which started performing in 2007. Vocals: Indrek; Drums: Vaiko; Rhythm guitar: Kaarel; Bass guitar: Karl; Lead guitar: Erko; Synth: Raigo. Their first demo called Stay With Me is already popular in Estonia. It was demo of the week in December 2008 on the local radio called Raadio 2.

The other band called Smallstone, combining mid-nineties britpop with heavy doses of late sixties psychedelia, has been steadily delivering a message of pure love for the last two years. Opening and playing with such bands as Beachwood Sparks, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and the Pretty Things, Smallstone has blazed a reputation from L.A. to San Francisco, and points further east.

Frontman James Ambrose and the band--Rick Maymi, Jeff Davies, Mara Keagle, and the usual exploding drummer--have been visible in this tight-knit scene from the onset. Sometime members of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spectrum, the Imaginary Friends, and other bands, smallstone members often join one another on stage (and off) exploring new sonic possibilities along with their inner mind. It was only a matter of time before their late night jams in smoke-filled candle-lit rooms developed into a sound uniquely its own.

Their self-titled debut album on Bomp! Records is sure to create tremors around the world with its infectious pop jangle and tripped-out vibe. Check out the soon-to-be pop classics "Perfect Day" and Danish Kiss", or the trippy Beatlesque sounds of "Sunshine Girl." Not heavy enough of a dose? Try "P. Weasel" and don't get up off the couch until tomorrow.

The many guest spots on the record include the keyboard magic of Vince Welnick (the Grateful Dead and the Tubes), and Anton Newcombe of the Brian Jonestown Massacre--who also lent his talent to the mixing process.

Newest members as of July 2000: Greg Epman (drums), Tommy Dietrick (bass)
