Remi Brannon

Rémi grew up traveling back and forth between Ireland and Brittany where he was often surrounded with a diversity of talented musicians from Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, or America. This is how he came to develop a passion for traditional and folk music. Soon, he started to write songs and compose music but, this is shortly before leaving Europe to settle in Saint Louis (USA) that he decided to get back to his love for traditional Irish music. His main influences on the guitar are Dáithí Sproule (Altan), Arty McGlynn (Bothy Band) and John Doyle (Solas). During his stay in the USA, he co-founded the band Gallica and collaborated with some of the most talented musicians in the area. Along his career path, Rémi had the chance to meet some of the greatest musicians on the trad scene such as Liz Carrol, Sile Friel (Friel Sisters), John Williams (Solas), David Brewer (Molly’s Revenge), and Paddy Keenan (Bothy Band) with whom he shared the stage on tour. After having spent 6 wonderful years in the USA, Rémi returned to Europe and settled in France where he worked closely for the Avalon Celtic Dances show and different other lineups such as « Trad 4 Reel » and the duet « In Trad We Trust ». D’origine franco-irlandaise, Rémi a grandi et évolué entre l’Irlande et la Bretagne où il a toujours été confronté aux musiques traditionnelles et chants folkloriques de ses deux pays de résidence. Malgré cette grande influence, ce n’est que tardivement que Rémi se met à apprendre la guitare et la musique de façon autodidacte. Il rejoint tout d’abord des formations de Blues, de Folk, et de Rock et se met à écrire et composer. C’est un peu avant de partir vers Saint Louis (USA) qu’il décide de retourner vers sa véritable passion pour la musique traditionnelle. Parmi ses influences à la guitare on compte des personnalités telles que Dáithí Sproule (Altan), Arty McGlynn (Bothy Band) et John Doyle (Solas). Pendant son séjour aux USA, il fonde le groupe Gallica et a l’occasion de collaborer plusieurs fois avec la flûtiste Lisa Gilbert. Au cours de sa carrière, Rémi a la chance de rencontrer des musiciens prestigieux tels que Liz Carrol, Sile Friel (Friel Sisters), John Williams (Solas), David Brewer (Molly’s Revenge), ou encore Paddy Keenan (Bothy Band) avec qui il partage la scène en tournée. C’est après six années aux USA que Rémi retourne en Europe et s’installe en Bretagne où il participe à différents projets et formations telles que « Avalon Celtic Dances », « Trad 4 Reel » et le duo « In Trad We Trust ».
