About Michael Toman Music Group

Drummer Michael Toman has been described as a drummer with solid time, an affinity for groove, and also being able to adapt to any musical situation. Some of Michael's influence include the Oscar Peterson trio, The Roots, James Brown, Tony Williams just to name a few. Michael Toman came to Nashville to attend The Middle Tennessee State University. Since moving to Nashville in 2010 Michael has been performing and freelancing all across the southeast area. He graduated from Middle Tennessee state with a bachelors in jazz studies/performance. In the Spring of 2015 Michael received a grant from Middle Tennessee State University to record his first full length album. The album In Motion is all originally composed material. The songs on the album highlight Michael's playing and writing he has done throughout his education at Middle Tennessee State University. During this process Michael was mentored by saxophone great Don Aliquo who also played on several of the recordings. The rest of the rhythm section included Matt Endhal (Belmont, Dara Tucker) and Jonathan Wires (MTSU, Nashville Jazz Composers Collective) In Nashville Michael has had the pleasure of playing along some of the best local musicians Don Aliquo, Jonathan Wires, Matt Endhal, The Great Barrier Reefs, David Williford. Michael has also had the pleasure of sharing the stage with jazz icons Dave Liebman, Jimmy Heath, and Bill Cunliffe. Since recording Michael continues to perform across Nashville and the southeast with various groups, making frequent stops at local jam sessions. As a composer he continues to push himself. He can be found playing his own original material across Nashville.
