About Lucky Strikes

Lucky Strikes began on the heels of a Christmas collaboration between singer-songwriter Angie Falcon and Rivers Monroe guitarist Matt “Doc” Varga. Their rendition of Baby It’s Cold Outside received critical acclaim from both Angie's sister, Matt's mother and among as many as a few others. “I really never knew how creepy that song was. That guy’s voice really brings out the creepy.” -THE DUDE WHO LIVES DOWN THE STREET “What do elephants have to do with Christmas?” -ANGIE’S FRIEND, PAUL “Anchh-all-ah and Mapp (are brilliant musicians who have come into their own rights with an exhilarating and unique twist on a beloved Christmas classic). Bonnie and Flyde?” -DAWSON, AGE 2 Building on that momentum, Angela and Matt created the Lucky Strikes, an ode to ‘Bonnie and Clyde,’ which is subsequently the first single off their new, self-titled album. After watching the 2013 television film, “Bonnie and Clyde: Dead and Alive,” starring Holliday Grainger and Emile Hirsch as Bonnie and Clyde, Angela was beguiled by the Barrow gang’s notoriety, but most notably, she was charmed by the relationship portrayed between Bonnie and Clyde. At times, she almost forgot that the two were American outlaws and robbers and she saw them only as a young couple in love. The song, “Bonnie and Clyde” was written not to celebrate the original crimes of Bonnie and Clyde, but to celebrate the dedicated duo-relationships of all kinds that stick together, whether dead or alive. Armed with thrill-seeking dreams of heroic last stands and bullet-ridden car chases, the duo embarks on a musical odyssey in the vein of “Of Monsters and Men,” "Matt and Kim," and "Lady Antebellum" to reach the very depths of human ideology, emotion, as well as the public awareness that Bonnie Parker was not the cigar-smoking gangster moll that the press made her out to be. (Despite the playful pictures found by the police, she was actually a chain-smoker of Lucky Strike cigarettes, and was very upset by the cigar/moll reputation.) In fact, after being shot by 130 rounds of ammo, she was found dead with a pack of Lucky Strike still clutched in her left hand. Angie Falcon released her debut album called “My Eyes” in February 2013 with independent label, AudioFilms Recordings, and is a veteran of the Tri-State performance circuit. She is a highly sought after songwriter and collaborator and has been worked in all genre's of music. Angie is captivated by stories and much of her song writing comes from the inspiration she finds in the lives she observes around her. Likewise, Matt is an accomplished musician who has played and recorded with a number of professional bands, signed with major labels and has toured much of the country as a guitarist and singer/songwriter. His love of music stemmed from his father and he learned at a young age that even the simplest melody could tug at parts of the soul he never knew he had. Together, the pair aspire to follow in the footsteps of other male-female duets while creating their own unique spin on the genre to separate themselves from the pack. Between the two of them, they have so much to express and so many great stories to tell and the Lucky Strikes will be their microphone. A strike of luck.
