About Two People Playing Music

2ppm, which stands for two people playing music, is a raw and spontaneous approach to art as music. John Ruskin's description of art as, "the expression of one soul talking to another" is a concept that accurately applies to 2PPM's creative process and style of performance. Band members, Chase Hudson and Sean Sullivan developed their musical partnership in Northwest Florida where they met, and relocated to Asheville in 2011. Their sound is supported by evocative keyboard textures and precisely executed rhythms. Though they can rightfully claim to have a very diverse range of musical influences, 2ppm is most inspired by the experimental styles associated with avant-garde, and the musical seriousness of jazz music, the process of making one minute's music in one minute's time. 2PPM's recently recorded 3rd release, "Desert Country and Physics" corroborates claims of early jazz influence. It was recorded live, in just a few hours, and consists of 4 one-take improvisations. Also, it should be noted, to add to the pureness of those takes, the band had not practiced or performed together for 4 months prior to recording. Desert Country and Physics also demonstrates a new and exciting direction for the band: the addition of drum sequencing and live sampling/looping. That, along with Hudson and Sullivan's dedication to listening to one another while performing will surely help to further enable them to represent the expressive truth of spontaneous creation. Regarding 2PPM's 2012 release, "For People", CEO and Founder of Australian electronic label, Ghostly International had this to say about the band on his now defunct personal blog, as he chose the band for "Best of Experimental/Ambient/Drone 2012", "A beautiful warmth emanates from their sound, a driving fusion of jazz and kraut rock that defies categorization. Tortoise are a touchstone perhaps, but 2PPM are a very different beast. It is not just two people playing music, it is two people constructing totally compelling music. These are musical conversations built on improvisation, on the addition of layers and the removal of sound, on the exploring of musical textures, on two supremely talented musicians creating something that is completely their own. That’s a beautiful thing and 2PPM want to share it with you. That’s beautiful too." ◊Desert Country and Physics out July 26◊ http://twopeopleplayingmusic.bandcamp.com
