About Dawson Rutledge
Dawson Rutledge is a 20 year old singer-songwriter, musician, and performer from Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada. He is a multi award-winning musician: In June 2015, Dawson was awarded the Top Male Musician Scholarship by his high school and a District/Authority Scholarship by the Ministry of Education for his exceptional musical ability. In March 2017, he won 2 Kootenay Music Awards: Best Folk/Roots/Country Act and Best Breakthrough Artist. Just one year later, In March 2018, Dawson won KMA's Artist of the Year.
Dawson’s very first performance of an original song, "Mysterious Woman", was in June of 2015 at the Key City Theatre, and he has hardly taken a breath since! With that same song he achieved Top 10 for Interior & Northern BC in the 2016 CBC Music Searchlight contest.
Dawson released a self-produced album of original songs, titled "Today, Tonight, Tomorrow", which features eight folk/alternative songs. After being discovered by producer/promoter Geordie Gillespie while performing at Mesa Music Festival in AZ, Dawson was given the opportunity to record with 3 time Grammy Award winning producer/engineer Justin Guip at Milan Hill Studio in NY, during the spring of 2017. That 9-song album, titled "Monsters" was released Oct 6, 2017. A single "When Life Gives you Monsters" was released in July, with a second single "Same Old News" following in August. With "Same Old News" Dawson entered CBC Searchlight 2018 and made Top 100 in Canada, being singled out by CBC Music as one of their Top 12 Artists.
Dawson’s style of performing is very unique and extremely entertaining. When performing solo, he switches between acoustic and electric guitars, playing his own blend of folk-rock/folk-pop. His style has been compared to that of artist Shakey Graves. Dawson Rutledge also performs with a band under the same name, where he is joined by Julian Bueckert (drums), Angus Liedtke (bass & pedal steel) & Dallas Moore (guitar & keys.) His band energetically performs his original tunes in the style of rock, as well as a few cover songs. Dawson's music is available to download/purchase on iTunes, Apple Music, and Spotify.
