Founded by Michael Cretu in 1990 and widely regarded as the Godfather of New Age, Enigma fused electronic music and worldbeat with Gregorian chant, ethnic samples, and sensual motifs — a combination that didn't exist in popular music before, and one that has shaped a genre ever since.

That sound arrived with debut single "Sadeness (Part I)", which became an international hit despite controversy and outright bans. "Sadeness" hit #1 in more than 20 countries; MCMXC a.D. went multi-platinum and spent five years on the Billboard 200.

Since then, Enigma has sold over 70 million records, earned 100+ Gold, Platinum, and Diamond awards, claimed more than 60 #1 chart positions worldwide, and received three Grammy nominations. Across eight studio albums, including the global cultural touchstone "Return to Innocence", the project has continued to evolve, never repeating itself, never losing its signature.
