About Thrift House
THRIFT HOUSE is a collective of human musicians born and built from the idea that pursuing eclectic variety in life is what delights the soul, much like the experience of being in a Thrift Store (assuming said Thrift Store is also a big fan of 4-part vocal harmonies).
Founded in 2015, THRIFT HOUSE is guitarists Ian Cummings & Robert Carter, keyboardist Joseph Davoli, vocalist Kandace Marion, rhythm section Nevin Zink, and sometimes powerhouse drummer Derek Engstrom. The musicians met at a “Band Bingo” competition, where after being drawn out of a hat into random bands they were tasked with writing songs that fit a random theme in under an hour. A kinship was soon formed, and a sound started to take shape, blending into a powerful force of creativity and musical harmony. From Carter’s futuristic indie visions, to Davoli’s classically trained piano playing and dance vibes, to Cummings’ heavy blues riffing, to Zink’s funky eclectic vibes, to Kandace Marion’s honest sweet vocals, to Engstrom’s best-in-class drum prowess, a tasty soup began to simmer. Performing their first live show after only a month of writing, THRIFT HOUSE was named and on their way.
The band aims for a sound that is always new and unique, and that notion carries over to their live shows. They have their own custom app for smartphones and tablets that fans can use to listen to their music, or even draw paintings and send postcards to the band’s projector in real-time while watching a live performance. Their most recent show includes the playback of inaudible ultrasonic sounds that control the listener’s phone flashlights to pulse in time with the music.
THRIFT HOUSE has a demo EP, titled “Sleepy”, releasing in early 2017, and can be seen at a variety of bars, shows, and festivals in and around Orlando. THRIFT HOUSE: THE GAME, a never before seen blend of video game and musical experience, is under development with expected release in late 2017.
