About Ryan Daunt

Daunt began learning drums at age 12 while he attended Carine Senior High School. In his senior year he won the top music student award for jazz performance. When he was 15, Daunt toured Australia with the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia Brass Band to Melbourne, Hobart and Perth competing in the National Brass Championships in 2010, 2011 and 2013. In 2014, Daunt was accepted into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts to study a Bachelor of Music Degree majoring in Jazz Performance. Daunt has recently completed his further studies at WAAPA resulting in a First Class Honours Music Degree majoring in Jazz Performance (2017).

Daunt has performed in Perth at the Perth Concert Hall, Regal Theatre, Perth International Jazz Festival, Perth International Arts Festival, Perth Fringe Festival, Perth Stadium, Perth Crown, Astor Theatre, King Street Corner Pocket, 459 Bar, Rosemount Hotel, Downstairs at His Majesty’s State Theatre, Perth Royal Show and more. Daunt has performed nationally at Doo Bop Jazz Bar Brisbane, Foundry 616 Sydney, and at Jazz lab and Paris Cat Jazz Club in Melbourne.

Daunt has performed with Kneebody, Troy Roberts, David Theak, Julian Argüelles, Migiwa Miyajima, Kate Cebrano, Ross Irwin, Alan Vizutti, Robert Childs, David Childs, MFG and others.

Daunt released his debut album Fragile Information in 2016. It features Luke Minness, Nick Abbey and Chris Foster.

In 2015, Ryan performed at the Bridgetown Blues Festival with the Zack Linton Trio and won the 2015 Blues Challenge, resulting in a trip to Memphis, TN and an opportunity to perform at the 2016 annual Memphis International Blues Challenge. In August 2016, Ryan attended the 2016 Croatian drum camp, where he studied with drumming legends Steve Gadd, John Riley, Horacio Hernandez and Claus Hessler. Daunt placed in the top 10 drummers in Drumtek’s Australia’s Best Up and Coming Drummer competition in 2015 and 2018.
