About Friends Like These

OUTLANDER - BCMA Horizon Act of the Year 2015.

Outlander is a Pop-Country band from the North East of England, but don’t let their style of music fool you, they do not sing about beer, whisky, or pick up trucks. Inspired by the modern sound of Nashville, this award winning band are part of the growing UK country music scene that has been made popular by artists such as The Shires and Ward Thomas.

Formed in 2015, the five piece wanted to put their own stamp on the hugely successful American music that has started to invade the UK, but still maintaining their own British identity. Within the first eight months as Outlander, the guys were recognised by the British Country Music Association for their work and were crowned the 2015 Horizon Act of the Year, which was won by The Shires in 2014.

Moving into 2016, the band kicked the year off by playing two dates at the C2C : Country to Country Music Festival at the O2 Arena, which the band found to be an extremely inspiring experience. Their mission now was to try and expand their fanbase, by taking it to an audience outside of the already established Country scene. Through this they showed that the line between Country and Pop is now more of a blur, and that the two sit comfortably with each other. Some of the highlights include The Tall Ships Race in Blyth (which is Northumberland’s biggest event), and supporting Simply Red at the Emirates International Cricket Stadium.

Currently the band are in the process of writing and recording their next EP, which will feature their brand new single ‘Old School’. The song is a tongue in cheek look at modern love and social media - ‘we’re not criticising modern technology and life, just reminding people that it never hurts to be a bit old school now and then!’ Written by the band, ‘Old School’ was recorded, produced, and mixed entirely in house using the expertise of the band, which allowed them to spend time building and refining their vision.

Old School is out 18 November 2016.
