About Fran Wyburn and the Indigos
Fran Wyburns music is characterized by rich harmonies and subtle instrumentation that provide a dreamy backdrop to her poetic lyrics and quirky story telling tales. Inspired by the 1960’s folk revival, her style is current, original and spirited. Fran plays with mesmerising guitarist George Birkett and together their warm personalities and unique blend of folk have been collecting a strong and passionate fan base across the UK. This summer they have been touring festivals including The Green Gathering, Folk East, Equinox and Maui Waui after finishing recording their debut album ‘ Wood for the Trees’ set for release at the beginning of next year.
After working for many years in London Fran packed her life away, brought a guitar and traveled the World busking her way around it. Teaching herself as she went she started writing songs about her experiences and returned with a dream to be a touring a songwriter! Honing her craft at Leeds College of Music in a Masters in Composition and working with Ian Archer (Snow patrol, Jake Bug, Gabrielle Aplin) Fran met her musical soulmate George Birkett. Together they have released 2 EP’s ‘Little Moments (2014) and ‘Postcards’ (2015) produced by Toby Davies (Jorja Smith, Maverick Sabre, Gentlemans Dub Club) of which FOLK RADIO UK said of Postcards a ‘captivating listen and one I could happily lose myself in…’
With an infectious, colourful and relaxed stage presence Fran is a natural communicator on and off stage. She has a great love of peoples tales and when not writing, recording and touring her own music she works with refugees, young people at risk, with older people with dementia and people with a disability to celebrate in the joy of singing and song. Watching Fran on stage you can not help but be uplifted by her songs and her passion for life that bubbles through her pure toned voice.
The next 6 months are going to be big for Fran starting with her two single releases this side of Christmas ‘Foolish Sea’ and ‘Set Sail’ and then playing on the Introducing Stage at The Great British Folk Festival in December. And like FOLK WORDS said in a review of their last EP “Don’t you just love it when an EP from an artist that you’ve never heard before turns out to be something that not only makes you glad you took the time to listen but also reveals a talent that surely has some distance to go ... and will not remain ‘unheard of’ for long”
