About Chelsea Reed
I'll write you a song.
Australian born, Canadian based singer/songwriter/composer Chelsea Reed announces her highly anticipated debut album, a year and a half in the making.
The self-titled album is Chelsea’s first release in over 3 years. Her debut EP, recorded in Sydney, Australia with producer Josh Schuberth (Josh Pyke, Dustin Tebbutt) and released in 2013, received critical acclaim and two singles ‘Snow Covered Hill’ and ‘I Want the World’ were on rotation across Australian community radio as well as Triple J Unearthed.
Drawing on inspiration from ‘70s pop and piano rock with hints of ELO, Carole King and Elton John throughout, the album is an eclectic, adventurous and daring debut and centers around Reed’s powerful and emotive vocals and captivating, offbeat songwriting.
For this album, Chelsea worked closely with producer Dave Draves (Kathleen Edwards, Jim Bryson) at his Ottawa studio Little Bullhorn and features the musical talents of Draves, drummer Olivier Fairfield (Timber Timbre), multi-instrumentalist Brian Sanderson (Esmerine) and cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne.
"...your voice is beautiful, I love all the twistable turnable bits. This is awesome." - Megan Washington
"... had the most intriguing set of the night. The combination of her keyboard skills and those of her accompanying cellist created very powerful moods for each song." - The AU Review, 2013
"With piano under her fingers she performed an array of her quirky pop songs with great feat." - The Orange Press, 2013
"... caught fans in a trance while her beautiful voice, gorgeous production and tremendous songwriting took centre stage... definitely one to look out for" - 2013 (support for Andy Bull)
For my theatre composition work:
"The use of music (composed and performed live by Chelsea Reed) lets us breathe and reflect between scenes. Reed’s work adds beauty and helps release the suppressed sentimentalities of the characters." - suzygoessee, 2014
"Sonically clarifying the relationship and its defining moments... Reed acts as a narrator and a guiding light – a beautiful and significant contribution to the story." - Australian Stage, 2014
