About ST (Music)
At every defining moment, you’re faced with fear. The anxiety kicks in and suddenly who you thought you were and what you thought you wanted doesn’t seem so clear any longer. It’s a place of tension where you get to make the choice to follow your heart or choose fear. That’s why ST makes music.
ST, short for Sarah Tilghman, was raised in a small town outside of Pittsburgh, PA. From a very young age, ST always knew she wanted to share music with the world. ST and her best friend formed a band in high school, this is where her love of songwriting and performing began to develop. At the age of 17, she received her first vocal lessons at a performing arts charter school. Here she began getting immersed in the rich diversity of music and vocal training. With musical knowledge in theory and piano, ST started teaching herself how to play guitar and writing more original music. Songwriting is something that did not always come easy for her, but with time the melodies got catchier and the lyrics more meaningful.
At the age of 20, ST recorded her first EP “Sanctuary”, a contemporary Christian project. Soon after the recording was complete, ST signed with a Christian record label and released “Sanctuary”. Sarah went on two tours that traveled throughout the U.S.
After meeting her husband on a trip to Russia, ST moved to southern CA. Many changes started taking place in ST’s music career, and she decided it was time to take her career in a new way as an independent artist. This resulted in loss and challenges yet so much hope for the future and the freedom to create whatever was in her heart.
While living in San Diego and later, Los Angeles, ST had the opportunity to write for other artists and projects, work with many producers and perform. She started creating pop music for personal releases, and began writing in many other genres for various writing projects.
In 2020, ST signed her first publishing deal with Avex Publishing Japan. In March that year, K-Pop artist SOOHYUN released “I Cannot Let You Go” which was written by ST, her husband (Jonathan Tilghman) and a team of talented writers and producers (Alyssa Ayaka Ichinose, Ricki Ejderkvist, and Ra’z).
During many months of lockdowns in LA, ST decided to begin learning music production. 2020 brought on many challenges for the entire world, yet it also presented the opportunity to grow and learn something new. Learning to produce music always felt scary and impossible to ST but there was no better time to begin getting immersed in it.
Over the last year, ST has produced multiple projects, released several singles, music videos and has been on a rewarding journey of discovering her sound and passion for creating music that aims to help people realize how capable they are of doing the things that seem impossible. ST’s journey has been full of challenges and her own personal struggle with fear and anxiety, but doing the things that feel scary has changed her for the better. “We owe it to ourselves and to the world to show up, whether we feel equipped or not, it’s so important to just do whatever is in your heart. No one else can be me and no one else can be you. I think when we realize that, we can bring more light, more love, and more hope to those around us.”
Now based in Nashville, TN, ST is excited about releasing future projects, collaborating with more artists and producers, and continuing to create music that is fun and impactful. Sarah has developed into a pop artist that writes love songs, songs about loss, and songs that awaken the dreamer within you. This isn’t just feel-good music...this is dream fulfillment music.
