About Debora Galan
Debora discovered covered her singing ability, at a young age. Her earliest recollections of singing are performances at family gatherings in Madrid (Spain), where she and her cousins would dance and sing. Later, when she moved to Washington, D.C., at the age of eight, she learned her first Mexican “Rancheras.” Inspired by legends such as Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, and other contemporary artists, Debora listened intently and taught herself how to sing. It was, as a 9th grade student that her music teacher, Mrs. Nicholson, gave her the first opportunity to sing publicly soloing at a school function. It was the beginning of what has become a lifelong dream of a career in music and performance.
This native of Spain inherited her love of music and singing from her grandfather and mother who sang flamenco. Debora began singing professionally at age 17, performing in Latin Jazz & Salsa clubs, with various leading bands and opening for major Latin acts in Washington, D.C., she also performed throughout the east coast with Highway Star. When she moved to the San Diego area, she began to sing gospel and contemporary Christian music. At the same time she began to move into the local music scene and became one of the lead singers of OSM, a well-known variety band, out of Carlsbad, California. Later on, she joined the very talented Stellar Award winner, Kenny Smith (artist/producer) in Los Angeles, with whom she toured. She is now the bandleader of the group, Debora Galán & Silk that performs throughout Southern California.
Debora has taken part in multiple recording projects, including some bilingual projects, in a variety of genres including jazz, rap, gospel, and R&B records, and was featured on the The Hungering’s CD. She has also performed for large audiences at special events, such as the Hispanic-American festival in Adams Morgan (Washington DC), DC/LA 94 Youth for Christ Super Concert, Love Will Wait Conference w/ Miles McPherson, as well as other multiple benefit concerts. Most recently she headlined at Art Affaire in the City of Rancho Mirage, Taste of Vista on Main Street, and has been one of the featured artists at PGA West’s Humana Challenge the last two years and will be opening for Award Winning Composer/Producer Steve Tyrell on October 2015.
Smooth, heartfelt, soulful...some of the words used to describe Debora Galan's vocal style. She now amalgamates her cultural diversity and her passion for music into a musical journey of Jazz, Latin Jazz, R&B, and World music with her new band Silk. Debora continues to expand as a musician, and is currently getting ready to release her original music CD, All About Love, produced by Allan Phillips.
