About Andrew Block
Andrew Block is a New Orleans based funk, soul and rhythm & blues guitarist, and member of The Russ Liquid Test. He has shared the stage and studio with legendary artists such as Gramatik, Pretty Lights, George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, Oteil Burbridge, Eric Krasno, Adam Deitch, and Dumpstaphunk. Aside from fronting his own projects, he is a member of Swampgrease feat. Terence Higgins, and Sonic Bloom feat. Eric Bloom (Pretty Lights/Lettuce). He is also the owner and operator of Neutral Sound Studio, a recording studio in New Orleans that is a throwback to the smaller studios of the 60's like Hitsville in Detroit and Sun in Nashville. Block's tasty and soulful funk chops are prominent on his debut record, You Can Only Go Up From Here, which was produced by Grammy winning producer, John Porter (B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal, Los Lonely Boys) features some of New Orleans' most legendary musicians. Raymond Weber, Nigel Hall, Terence Higgins, Tony Hall, Eric Vogel, and Ivan Neville round out a rhythm section that provide a danceable, grooving foundation for the soulful guest vocals of New Orleans' own Erica Falls and Nick Daniels III. The tight, JB's-esque horn arrangements were provided by Ryan Zoidis, of Lettuce and Soulive. As a southern Florida native, Block spent his childhood playing gospel, blues and rock music before moving to Asheville, NC. While living in North Carolina, he began to expand his musical journey and linked up with friends to start a legendary local rock band. Soon he emerged onto the jam band scene and gained the attention and accolades of his contemporaries. Andrew moved to New Orleans in 2009 and has called it home ever since. 1984 EP by The Russ Liquid Test available NOW on All Good Records
